Independent Study

To be successful in their studies, students need to be organised, manage their time well and become independent learners. They are expected to do at least 5 hours independent study per subject per week as well as engage in wider reading for their chosen subjects. Managing time effectively is supported by our experienced team of tutors and our dedicated Student Support Lead.

Sixth Form Induction

I am anxious that I am not going to get the grades for sixth form. What can I do?
We have been advising students to make sure that you have a backup plan in place. If you haven’t already done so, then you need to make an application to a college or to a sixth form at another school. Please let Miss Brough know if you need the support of our Careers Adviser.

What extra work can I do to prepare for sixth form?
You will need to consolidate your GCSE knowledge for your A Level and BTEC subjects. All courses in Year 12 require a solid foundation of GCSE work. Dipping into A Level/BTEC content will also stand you in good stead.

What do I do if I want to change my options?
Email Mrs Gwatkin, sooner rather than later, so that she can check whether your new choices fit into the option blocks.

If I don’t get the grade for a certain subject, will I still be able to do it?
No, you will not be allowed to study that subject. If this is the case, you will be asked to change your options on Results Day. You must meet the course requirements to continue studying that subject in Year 12. This is non-negotiable.
