Student Leadership
At Wednesfield we aim to give our pupils the very best curriculum experience possible.
We develop these skills and values by encouraging our pupils to take part in roles around the school that provide them with responsibilities and allow them to develop leadership characteristics.
Student Leadership Opportunities
Sixth Form leadership team – This is our Sixth Form student leadership team. Each member is elected to take on a specific roles to work in partnership with the staff including:
Prefects – Senior Year 11 pupils take on multiple responsibilities and are active role models for the school upholding our values and providing support for their peers. Our prefects undergo training i.e Safeguarding training to allow them to provide advice and support to their peers. Our prefects attend events out of school hours and are advocates for the school. The pupils demonstrate the highest levels of engagement and commitment to Wednesfield Academy.
Student council - Student Councillors play a pivotal role in the everyday life of their peers at Wednesfield Academy. They provide support to pupils and share impactful ideas to improve all areas of school life for them and their fellow pupils. They work collaboratively with 6th form leadership and teachers to build a better, brighter school where we all learn in a spirit of respect, resilience and pride.
Anti-Bullying ambassadors - Wednesfield Academy actively participates in the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors program and offers support to combat bullying. Anti-Bullying ambassadors play a pivotal role in promoting respect and kindness. They also raise awareness of bullying and the impacts it can have on individuals and the academy as whole. We are committed to promoting the welfare of children and young people. As an anti-bullying ambassador, one should be able to help educate on bullying, lead on anti-bullying campaigns, promote a culture which celebrates and tolerates difference and help keep students safe both online and offline. These students are passionate and committed to stop bullying.
Charity ambassadors - Our charity ambassadors are able to voice different ideas to help raise money whilst involving both students and teachers. These students hold responsibility to plan and execute activities that would be beneficial to a particular charity, it can be local or one of their choices. This is an opportunity that can help the student be more confident to share their ideas and develop their programming skills. Whilst planning the event, students will learn the charity's aim and how it links to our school values.
Sports ambassadors - Our sports ambassadors at Wednesfield academy play a pivotal role in the journey of their peers through Wednesfield Academy and their involvement in sporting activities. From this role they gain leadership skills, promote the positive values of sport, act as a role model and champion for Physical Education, school sport, participation opportunities and healthy lifestyles for everyone. Sports Ambassadors aim to maximise pupil learning by providing them with the opportunity to take an active interest in sports at Wednesfield.
Eco Ambassadors - Our eco ambassadors are responsible for being dedicated to looking after our planet and making our school a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable environment. Alongside the student council, their role involves sharing ideas to contribute to rebuilding an eco-friendly school. The eco ambassadors are focussed on promoting the growing understanding on litter, energy, waste, water, our environment, and healthy living. Unequivocally, an eco-ambassador is someone who oversees the ways that we can reuse and recycle in our school.
Careers ambassadors - Careers Ambassadors at Wednesfield Academy play a pivotal role in the journey of your peers through Wednesfield Academy. You will provide a vital link between pupils and the Student Council, sharing ideas to further improve our careers education. Careers ambassadors work together with student leadership and teachers work to build an extensive, effective careers curriculum so that all pupils leave Wednesfield Academy aspirational young adults, ready with all the skills they need to go into the world of work.

Schools across Matrix Academy Trust have been recognising the International Day of Democracy (15th September).
International Day of Democracy began in 1997 and it is based on the principles of equality, liberty, and justice. Democracy is essential for human rights and development.
Schools will be considering the meaning behind the international day, but also our modern British values – democracy and individual liberty.
We practise democracy in all of our schools by electing pupils to take on various roles and responsibilities on behalf of their peers including Form Captains, School Council Representatives, Personal Development Ambassadors, Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Careers Champions.
We will be celebrating democracy in our schools across the week by voting for our peers and encouraging our pupils to take on these fulfilling roles for the academic year ahead.

On 10th October, we are wearing yellow to celebrate Mind. Mind is an organisation dedicated to supporting mental health and many of our pupils have accessed support from Mind. We will be wearing yellow and there will a bake sale wear pupils can bring money to purchase cakes. The proceed will be donated to Mind.

On Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th March Wednesfield pupils and staff put on their third annual musical production. Little Shop of Horrors was a great success with an energetic audience who supported throughout. This performance was a true testament to the power of teamwork, creativity, and determination. The pupils not only entertained but inspired other pupils with their talent and commitment. We hope to see you all again soon to support more of our dedicated pupils as they continue to showcase their passion and talent on stage at our summer MADD Evening on 10th July 2024.
