International Day of Democracy

Schools across Matrix Academy Trust have been recognising the International Day of Democracy (15th September).

International Day of Democracy began in 1997 and it is based on the principles of equality, liberty, and justice. Democracy is essential for human rights and development.

Schools will be considering the meaning behind the international day, but also our modern British values – democracy and individual liberty.

We practise democracy in all of our schools by electing pupils to take on various roles and responsibilities on behalf of their peers including Form Captains, School Council Representatives, Personal Development Ambassadors, Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Careers Champions.

We will be celebrating democracy in our schools across the week by voting for our peers and encouraging our pupils to take on these fulfilling roles for the academic year ahead.

Taking to the Stage!

On Monday 18th and Wednesday 20th March Wednesfield pupils and staff put on their third annual musical production. Little Shop of Horrors was a great success with an energetic audience who supported throughout. This performance was a true testament to the power of teamwork, creativity, and determination. The pupils not only entertained but inspired other pupils with their talent and commitment. We hope to see you all again soon to support more of our dedicated pupils as they continue to showcase their passion and talent on stage at our summer MADD Evening on 10th July 2024. So grab your tickets, spread the work and join us for another round of applause – worthy performances!

Sixth Form Induction

This week Year 11 pupils returned to the academy for their Sixth Form Induction. Pupils had some lesson tasters ready for September, had a warm welcome from the  6th form coordinator Mr Rogers and had a careers workshop with Miss Rehman.

This is an exciting time for our new cohort of Year 12 as they prepare for their next steps – we are all looking forward to welcoming them back in September!

Mr Hill, Mr Rogers and Miss Rehman were all very impressed by students’ attitudes to the activities and participation in the group tasks.

Sixth Form Volunteering

This week has seen a number of our Sixth Form volunteering hours pass the 50 hour mark.

Our Sixth Form students commit to two hours per week in Year 12 and one hour per week in Year 13 of volunteering around the academy.

This includes supporting lessons in Years 7, 8 and 9, mentoring students from all Year Groups, supporting our Pastoral Team and Library activities.

Not only is this a great way of gaining experience, but also allows them to be strong role models for our younger students.

Refereeing Success

K. Lewis in Year 12 has been helping one of our local primary schools, Perry Hall, by refereeing their after school football matches. He has been asked to support them over the next four weeks because they were so impressed with the way he interacted with the younger students! Well done, the PE department are very proud of you!

District Tribunal Judge Visit

Our Year 13 Criminology students had the pleasure of welcoming District Tribunal Judge, Jane Beale and HHJ Katherine Tucker into their lesson on Monday. These two passionate and successful women provided an insight into their careers and supported in the students’ understanding of the Justice System in England and Wales. They even allowed a few students to try on a very impressive gown and wig! We send many thanks to our visitors for taking time out of their extremely busy schedules to speak with us and we now cannot wait to visit the courts in person!
