Christmas Fair

Wednesfield Academy's third annual Christmas Fair was a festive extravaganza, offering a vast array of attractions to delight visitors of all ages. From vibrant stalls selling croc charms, book and gifts, to an exciting tombola and raffle, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Santa’s Grotto was a magical highlight thanks to our sixth form volunteers who captured the magic of the North Pole. The fair truly captured the spirit of the season, bringing the community together for a memorable celebration. Thank you to Wednesfield Friends PTA and the prefect team for putting together a wonderful event.

Performing Arts Showcase

On Thursday 28th November all the schools from across Matrix Academy Trust came together to celebrate the Performing Arts. It was a spectacular display of talent, showcasing their skills in dance, drama, and music. This event was a celebration of creativity, hard work, and the vibrant spirit of pupils who have worked hard over the past few months to showcase their performances.

This event emphasised the importance of the performing arts in shaping well-rounded individuals. The confidence, discipline, and teamwork required in these artistic disciplines provide invaluable life skills that extend far beyond the stage.

The success of this event is a testament to the thriving performing arts community within our Trust schools. It’s clear that the future of dance, drama, and music is in good hands. With such incredible talent on display, it’s exciting to think about the future performances and productions that will emerge from these talented young artists.

Thank you to everyone for their involvement with the event.

Hockey Competition

Friday afternoon saw our Y7 and Y8 take part in a fiercely competitive inter-house hockey competition organised by Mr Hill in association with Bloxwich Hockey Club.

Every game was closely contested with Tamworth taking the trophy on goal difference!  All students who participated won a voucher for x3 free training sessions with Bloxwich Hockey Club taking place on Friday evenings ran by Mr Hill himself. If any Wednesfield pupil is interested in joining our local hockey club please ask Mr Hill for more information.

This Friday is 6th Form's turn to take to the hockey stage by storm!

Big thank you to Mr Parsons and Mr Joss for promoting this event across KS3 classes.

Coventry University Talk

On Monday 18th November 2024 we had the pleasure of inviting Coventry University to join us and speak with our Year 12 students. Coventry University took the time to introduce our Year 12 students to the process of applying for University and what is the main attraction of a personal statement to make them stand out.

The Year 12 students really enjoyed the guest speaker and took note of all the details that they were given especially the ideas of how to lay out personal statements and what to include in them. The model the students were given to follow was the ABC Model (Activity - What did you do?, Benefit - What did you gain from this?, Course - how will this prepare you for the course you have chosen?).

PerformFest

🌟 Our pupils had an incredible day at PerformFest at Wolverhampton College on Thursday! 🎭✨
They shared music and drama performances with college pupils and another local school, joined acting, singing, and dancing workshops, and took part in inspiring Q&As with industry professionals rom The Arena Theatre about a variety of careers within the performing arts.

One of the highlights from the trip was meeting Waterloo Road star Priyasasha Kumari, who shared her journey as an actor and her passion for representing South Asian women on screen. Our pupils left inspired, having made new connections and unforgettable memories!

Remembrance Service

Our pupils and staff have been considering remembrance. Each year, as a country, we join to consider the sacrifices and efforts made to protect our British values. Throughout conflicts over the years, the men and women who have given their all to ensure our individual liberty and freedom of speech remain intact.

On Friday 8th November, Matrix Academy Trust held their annual trust wide remembrance service. A small contingent of cadets and staff from each of schools joined together, this year hosted by Wednesfield Academy. Whilst any parade is a spectacle of respect to behold, this one particularly hit home the unity that encompasses Great Britain. All our schools joining together, each represented by model student leaders to show their respects.

As the parade began our CCF commanders were joined by Lord-Lieutenant Derrick Anderson CBE, as the sovereign’s representative for the West Midlands, for the event. Lord-Lieutenant Anderson joined our CEO, Headteachers along with other dignitaries to view the exemplary collection of cadets who had turned out with immaculate uniform.

Following an inspection, the traditional poem ‘In Flanders Field’ was read out as Sixth Form pupils from Wednesfield underlined that ‘We will remember them!’. With the last post playing the attendees, school and Trust observed a two-minute silence to pay respect to all of those who have sacrificed for us.

We are so proud of our cadets, and everyone involved for emphasising the importance of remembrance.
