This week we hosted our first ever trust wide football competition between all our schools. The competition was hosted at Etone College and utilised the outstanding facilities and Football Academy provision to implement a very competitive and fun filled event. The day consisted of high quality and competitive football from Year 8 pupils from each of our schools. Our pupils showcased sportsmanship of the highest quality and their passion for football shone through as pupils enjoyed playing and meeting people from across the trust.

It was evident as soon as the group stages started, the games were going to be decided with a bit of magic, an error, or the dreaded penalties. The group stages ended Bloxwich Academy, Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, Etone College and Turves Green Boys’ School progressed to the semi-final stage.

The 7th and 8th placed playoff was a competitive affair which saw the Etone B team victorious over Wednesfield Academy on penalties. The 5th and 6th placed game saw Barr Beacon win the game 1-0. In the semi-finals there was very little difference between the four schools in what was a very competitive high-quality game and again the dreaded penalty shoot-out came into force, Etone College and Bloxwich Academy progressed to the final and Turves Green and Dame Elizabeth went into the third and fourth playoff game

The 3rd and 4th playoff game was a very exciting game that saw both teams miss chances and played some free-flowing exciting football, unfortunately both keepers were to remain unbeaten, and Dame Elizabeth took the third place on penalties. The final consisted of Bloxwich Academy and Etone College in which was anyone’s to win after the two teams had played out a 0-0 draw earlier in the day. Etone started quickly and scored an absolute thunderbolt into the top corner to make it 1-0, Bloxwich to their credit competed fiercely and played some fantastic football and deserved their equaliser to make it 1-1. With both teams going for the win Etone caught Bloxwich on the break to open them up and scored 3 late goals to take the game and the title 4-1.

A huge well done to all pupils and staff involved and a big thankyou to all those that contributed to the event. We are looking forward to getting the next event booked into the calendar to see where the shield will end up next year.

Yesterday we started our festive festivities with Key Stage assemblies.  All of the pupils were a credit to our amazing school getting involved in all sorts of games to win points for their house.

Staff were involved too with a couple of them getting more than they signed up for during our version of The Wheel.

The behaviour of the pupils was outstanding, with lots of them wanting to take part- we all had lots of laughs.

Just another sign of how brilliant our school is.

Merry Christmas!

On Tuesday 17th December, Wednesfield Academy hosted its first MADD Evening (Music, Art, Drama, and Dance) of this academic year, bringing together pupils from Year 7 to Year 12 for a spectacular celebration of creativity and talent. The evening was a vibrant showcase of dance, drama, music performances, and stunning artwork, highlighting the hard work and dedication of our pupils over the past few months.

This event was not just a display of artistic skill but also a celebration of the confidence, resilience, and pride that the performing arts inspire in our pupils. These invaluable life skills are crucial in shaping well-rounded individuals who thrive both on and off the stage.

The success of the evening is a testament to the thriving arts community at Wednesfield Academy. With such incredible talent on display, the future of the performing and creative arts at our school is undeniably bright.

A huge thank you to our parents, families, and local community for coming to support the event. Your encouragement and enthusiasm made the evening even more special.

Pupils can wear Christmas jumpers this Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th December, and are not to bring bags (or PE kits) to school on these dates. If your child brings lunch to school they can still bring their rucksack in.

There will be no after school clubs/period 6 on Wednesday 18th December other than DofE.

The Duke of Edinburgh session this Wednesday 18^th December will be the one club still taking place after school, as we have a guest coming in to speak to the pupils from the DofE Award.

On Thursday 19th December, as outlined I previous correspondence, pupils will finish school at 12.40pm, and if you child is in receipt of Free School Meals and you would like them to take a lunch home with them, please email postbox@wednesfieldacademy.co.uk.

Friday afternoon saw our Y7 and Y8 take part in a fiercely competitive inter-house hockey competition organised by Mr Hill in association with Bloxwich Hockey Club.

Every game was closely contested with Tamworth taking the trophy on goal difference!  All students who participated won a voucher for x3 free training sessions with Bloxwich Hockey Club taking place on Friday evenings ran by Mr Hill himself. If any Wednesfield pupil is interested in joining our local hockey club please ask Mr Hill for more information.

This Friday is 6^th Form's turn to take to the hockey stage by storm!
