Our first ever Matrix Netball Tournament took place on Wednesday 22nd April, bringing together schools from across the trust for a fantastic day of sport, collaboration and competition. The event showcased the strength of sport within the trust and provided pupils with the opportunity to represent their schools with pride.
Throughout the day, all participating schools demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship, contributing to a positive and inclusive atmosphere both on and off the court. It was particularly encouraging to see the continued growth of netball across the trust, including increased participation in mixed and boys’ netball, reflecting the sport’s expanding inclusivity.
The standard of play was consistently high, with many closely contested matches highlighting the talent and commitment of pupils from every school involved. While Etone College went on to secure the overall victory, the tournament was very much a collective success, celebrating the effort, enthusiasm and unity of all participants.
Thank you to every school, pupil and member of staff who took part and supported the event. Your contribution made the inaugural Matrix Netball Tournament a memorable occasion and a strong foundation for future trust-wide sporting events.

Fourteen Year 8 pupils at Wednesfield Academy have been selected to participate in The Scholars Programme, an academic initiative run by The Brilliant Club. This education charity is dedicated to widening access to the UK’s most selective universities for exceptional pupils attending non-selective state schools.
As part of the programme, our pupils are currently taking part in a series of university-style tutorials delivered in school by Dr Waksh Awais, a Lecturer in Accounting at Aston University. The tutorials explore the theme “What is Money?” and are taking place during the Spring and Summer terms. Throughout the programme, pupils will complete a series of written assignments designed to develop their academic skills.
At the end of the programme, pupils will attend a Graduation Event at a university. This celebration will recognise their achievements and further develop their understanding of higher education.

There have been a number of rewards visits this week to congratulate those pupils who consistently get it right. This time round pupils have gone ice skating, visited Dudley Zoo and Drayton Manor. Well done to everyone involved!

Our LIFE Group pupils enjoyed another wonderful visit to Bentley Court Care Home, spending the afternoon connecting with residents through music, games, and meaningful conversation. Highlights included a piano performance with a resident singing along and a balloon tennis tournament that brought plenty of laughter. The pupils showed kindness and respect throughout, earning praise from staff for their excellent behaviour and representing the school with pride.

From Easter Monday through to Friday, 11 cadets from Wednesfield, joined by around 30 cadets from across the trust and students from Queen Mary’s Grammar School (QMGS), embarked on an exciting and rewarding week-long camp at Inskip Cadet Training Centre.
Throughout the week, cadets immersed themselves in a wide range of challenging and engaging activities, including archery, flight simulators, low ropes, air rifle, and DCCT — a simulated live-fire training exercise using weapon systems currently used by the British Armed Forces.
One standout moment came from Cadet Nina, who proudly achieved an impressive 4mm shooting grouping during the air rifle activity — a fantastic accomplishment that highlights both precision and focus.
Staff from Queen Mary’s Grammar School were full of praise for the Wednesfield cadets, commending their excellent behaviour, positive attitude, and enthusiasm across all activities during the camp. In particular, Corporal Matilda was recognised as a standout cadet, earning special mention for her exceptional contribution and conduct throughout the week.
The opportunities didn’t stop there. On Friday 10th, after already spending four days at Inskip, Corporal Matilda and Corporal Geetika went on to take part in another incredible experience: a STEM event with Atlassian Williams Racing, joining 80 cadets from across the region. This unique opportunity gave the cadets valuable insight into the world of science, technology, engineering, and motorsport innovation.
The cadets representing Wednesfield at Inskip were:
The week was a tremendous success, showcasing the cadets’ skill, resilience, and exemplary conduct, while also providing memorable experiences that will no doubt inspire them in the future.

During Monday lunchtime Mr Hill and Mrs Ball treated over twenty Year 11 pupils to a McDonalds Happy Meal to celebrate these pupils' preparations for their summer examinations.
Our teachers have recognised them as being firmly ‘on the boat’ and working hard towards what we all hope will be a successful GCSE examination period.
Pupils will receive their mock exam results at the parents' information evening for all Y11 pupils at 4.40pm on Thursday 26th March 2026
